Our evening game drive today featured this wonderful view of giraffes in the Madikwe Game Reserve. It was one of the last photos I took before the light did its fast fade into darkness. There were about eight giraffes to our left as Morah-Leigh Cooper guided our Land Cruiser down a narrow, bumpy path through the park. They moved with eerie grace across the orange and purple sky, then hoofed it across the road in front of us, highlighted by Morah’s bright spotlight. Stunning.
Everyone else has gone to bed, so I’ll head back to the cabin quietly and hope to get a full night’s sleep for tomorrow morning’s return to the wild, starting at 5:30 a.m.
